Chinese Medicine in Practice
What do headaches have to do with the whole person? Why is sleep not the only thing that matters when we cannot sleep?
Since 2021, our lecture series has been exploring exactly these questions. Not as a journey into some exotic art of healing, but where medicine becomes real for each of us: with our complaints, our health and the question of what we can do ourselves.

The speaker
Dominique Hertzer received her doctorate in Sinology in 1993 with a thesis on the Yijing text found at Mawangdui. Her second doctorate (2005), in the theory of medicine, examined the different understandings of the relationship between body and mind, or body and spirit, in China and the West.
Since 1997 she has run her own practice for TCM as a naturopath (Heilpraktikerin) in Utting am Ammersee, and since 2013 also a practice for philosophical counselling. She teaches at LMU Munich and at the universities of Göttingen and Oldenburg, and is a visiting researcher at CeMEAS (Centre for Modern East Asian Studies) at the University of Göttingen.
Her research focuses on Chinese medicine, Daoism, philosophical practice and the relationship between philosophy and medicine.
